This is a standout opportunity for an experienced Tax Director (VAT & Indirect Tax) to join a progressive and highly regarded accountancy and advisory firm in Leeds. You’ll lead the firm’s VAT and Indirect Tax function, driving growth, delivering exceptional client service, and advising across a broad range of complex and high-value projects.

\nThe Role\n

As Tax Director, you’ll oversee all VAT and Indirect Tax operations for the firm’s regional and national client base. You’ll act as a strategic business partner to clients, providing expert advice while guiding and developing the internal team.

\nKey responsibilities include:\n

• Leading on all VAT and Indirect Tax advisory projects for a diverse portfolio of clients across sectors including property, manufacturing, retail, not-for-profit, and professional services
\n
• Providing technical leadership on complex VAT matters, including land and property transactions, partial exemption, cross-border trade, and international supply chains
\n
• Supporting transactional projects such as acquisitions, disposals, and group restructures
\n
• Managing and developing the firm’s VAT and Indirect Tax service line, contributing to business strategy and growth planning
\n
• Acting as a key contact for HMRC and representing clients in disputes and negotiations
\n
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships, becoming a trusted commercial advisor
\n
• Providing technical training and mentoring to the wider tax and accounts teams
\n
• Collaborating with other partners and directors to identify opportunities for cross-service collaboration
\n

\nAbout You\n

You’ll be a commercially minded tax leader with deep technical expertise and a passion for helping clients navigate the complexities of VAT and Indirect Tax.

\n

You will:

\n

\n
• Be CTA and/or ACA/ACCA qualified, with substantial experience in VAT and Indirect Tax.
\n
• Have at least 10 years of experience in a VAT-focused role within practice or HMRC.
\n
• Demonstrate proven experience delivering strategic VAT advice on complex and high-value transactions.
\n
• Have experience in leadership and people development, ideally managing or growing a VAT team.
\n
• Be confident presenting and communicating with senior stakeholders and clients.
\n
• Have excellent technical and commercial awareness, with the ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused solutions.
\n
• Be proactive, professional, and able to thrive in a client-facing, advisory-led environment.
\n

Experience in property VAT, cross-border transactions, and partial exemption is particularly valuable.
